The Uglies Are Coming! The Manchester Community Market is pleased to announce a collaboration with the NH Food Bank, where they will be offering a fun, interactive cooking demonstration called The Uglies. Kids and adults alike will be invited to cook farm produce, turning it into gourmet dishes! We call the produce "ugly" because it has blemishes and is hard to sell, but it is still perfectly healthy and delicious!
Chef Jayson, Chef Paul and Chef Nick from the NH Food Bank's Recipe for Success program will be offering this activity throughout the market season beginning July 14th. Watch our fan page for more dates! WHY IS THIS SO COOL? Growing natural foods means that the food won't always look perfect. Because no chemicals are used on many of our local foods, they may not look perfect but they are indeed extremely healthy! This program helps our farmers with their visually challenged "uglies", which is a big goal here at the market, to increase farmer's sales so they can keep on growing! PLUS using up "uglies" helps eliminate food waste, by using every bit of food grown locally. PLUS you can learn a few cooking tips if you need ideas on what to do with fresh produce. PLUS you get to eat food! And lots more... Come and see how delicious these treats will be, free samples will be available, especially if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and help out our awesome chefs! |
More About NH Food Bank's Recipe For Success Program
Learn How to Become a Chef for Free!
The goal of the Recipe for Success Culinary Job Training is to help individuals suffering financial hardship gain the skills and experience necessary to seek employment in the food service industry. The Food Bank considers financial hardship as those whose combined household income is unable to sustain themselves and their family, and are unable to obtain a job at a living wage with the skills and experience they currently possess. The majority of the training consists of hands-on experience in the Food Bank's state-of-the-art commercial kitchen preparing meals for the registered agencies of the Food Bank. Students will learn how to use large scale production equipment, becoming comfortable preparing food utilizing commercial equipment found in restaurants and institutions in their future careers. This course provides at least 100 meals per day for the Manchester Boys & Girls Club, and produces meals in bulk to be frozen for use by our other registered agencies.
